Valentine's Day

Valentine's day was uneventful - got up, greeted each other and gave high-5's. We'll just have a better celebration this week-end. Mom attended the first day of the conference and I just walked around the area: went to the PX to get some munchies and foot medication (mom's complaining about my stinky feet again) then had lunch at the galley tackfully named "Ciao (Chow) Hall". Met mom along with the other conferees and joined their table.

Ventured off the base afterwards and rode the bus to the other site - about 25 minutes away. Not much to see along the way except excessive trash along the roadway and the imposing dormant volcano Mt. Vesuvius in the background. It's been hazy and overcast so I didn't take a picture. I took this one yesterday afternoon from the parking garage. It looked like a brown Mt. Fuji with the top blown off.

The other site had the housing area, main PX/commissary and other support facilities and is quite new also. The PX/commissary are both in one big structure along with the small shops and eateries. Just walked around/didn't buy anything and paid for some on-line time to check hotmail. The site is blocked at the library computers as a precaution for viruses. Hung around at the bus stop at 4:40 waiting for mom and when the bus came around and she wasn't on it, got aboard since it was the second to the last bus to return to the other site because I didn't want to get stuck there with no means of going back.

Got some flowers for mom before going back to the room and then read the newspaper and did crossword puzzles while waiting for mom. Found out later when she came to get me to eat dinner that she was on the next bus with some of the conferees. They had to hurry into the PX to look for me and then had to hurry out to catch the last bus. We had dinner at the same place that we ate the night before and I had the Jack Daniels BBQ burger special with MGD while mom had buffalo wings with Diet Coke. A really romantic Valentine's Day dinner. Oh well...
