Rota Carnival

The weather has finally cleared up a bit last Sunday so we were able to watch the Carnival parade at Rota. It wasn't as wild/crowded as Cadiz and it's pretty much like a small town parade. Lots of floats and participants and people lined up along the sidewalk to watch it go by.

Even the onlookers were dressed up especially the kids because it is really like a celebration for the kids. What's funny too is they were pushing their refreshment carts along with them containing beer, wine, soda and snacks.

There was a float shaped like an island with a lone palm tree that depicted the 'Survivors' and the participants were dressed up in tattered clothes and had bushy hair and beards. Just shot some videos while mom was taking the still shots.

They had a nasty group though - men dressed up as babies in diapers and going around and around on strollers. Just look at the pictures and you can see what I'm talking about.

There was also a group of square dancers and were really having a great time especially when the Spanish version of achy-breaky heart was played and they started doing their line dance. I think mom almost joined in.

Here's the group dressed up like Japanese complete with matching kimonos and wooden shoes dancing to 'ubon' tunes.

Here's the float representing the Middle East with the kids dressed in costumes like Aladdin.

Here's the group from the enchanted forest dressed as elves.

It was quite a long parade with the kids on the floats throwing candies and confetti at the people.

There were also street vendors pushing their carts along the street selling all kinds of stuff from balloons to toys and snacks.

And of course, the street was a mess afterwards with all the confetti that were thrown about.
